My AP scores are 3s and 4s and I was wondering if colleges look at your AP scores as a determining factor in the application process. My counselor said that they want you to take them, but the scores are irrelevant as long as you don't fail.

At the most competitive colleges [ think HYPSMIT, etc] AP scores are a factor.

I don't think they care. Don't send the scores.

Don't send any scores? Because I'm basically applying only to UCs and I would think that UCs would want to see that I took AP exams...

They do look at them, but it's not like some major thing. I'd say they're like interviews, nice to have, but not some super thing that kills you.

You don't send AP scores to UC's until you've been admitted...

But, you should still self-report your AP scores, cause they will only help and not hurt.

I think good AP scores can prove your grade wasn't inflated, too...

AP scores are not asked on the common app (the only school that asked was Duke for me, I have no idea about UC). But from my encounters with admission officers, I have come to the conclusion that AP scores play no part (a very very little at most) in your application. You can probably not mention them on your application if they are not asked. (But, 3/4 won't hurt you certainly, but will not help)

I agree with this statement.

I agree with this statement.

Ok this has been really helpful, thanks.

I got into Stanford, UCLA, NYU and Berkeley with two 4's and one 5.

Haha, I was really worried about that but I guess it doesn't make much of a difference!

I'll get back to you once I hear from Harvard and Columbia--maybe they'll care more.

I'm just wondering- can you selectively report AP scores? For instance if I get a 3 and a 5 on two different APs, can I tell them about the 5 but not the 3? And will they be suspicious about the fact that I am only reporting one?

I don't think you can only report one and not the other.

And I still haven't reported my AP scores to my colleges- they're automatically going after this round to the college that I'm attending. Most places don't consider them in admissions, so if anything, just self report.

...but do they consider them when the final school report is received by the school - that is, at the end of the whole admissions process?

And, if they in fact do receive them at the end,

can poor AP scores (1's) cause an acceptance rescission ?

can they, in other words, possibly HURT the applicant AT THIS TIME?

What did your admission letter say? That should give you some clues about what issues might cause the college to rescind an offer of admission.

The short answer about AP tests scores is, don't worry about it.

I don't think a school would rescind your admission because of ap scores, unless you got like a 100 on the course, which is why they let you in, and then you got like a 1 on the exam.

But even then I don't think they would rescind you.

Official AP scores usually are only seen by the office of the registrar? Why? Because after you're accepted, they don't care what you got, they just need to know what courses they can grant you credit for, due to AP tests.

No one rescinds on AP scores. That's just ridiculous.

i took a non-ap english class this year (no ap is offered) and also an AP US history class. The ap exams i have taken/am taking are: english lit and US history. I think i did well on lit (4 or 5) and bombed us hisotry (2 or 3). It seems from the above post that i should just not submit and scores since the lack of a US history exam might be suspicious. But is this right? Should I only submit the lit? Wouldn't they be suspicious of that? Should I just not make any mention of AP exams on my application? But don't they (they being top colleges) expect to see some scores?
