So I am just really curious to know if this is true: when you apply to schools, do the colleges/universities compare you to other kids in your school?
Will they limit how many kids they will accept from one school by eliminating certain kids in this kind of "early round", where they compare the kids to each other? I just would like to get this cleared up in my mind...I really have no clue whether this is true or not.
Thanks!

They do compare you to other kids in your school but I don’t think they implement a specific number limit as to how many kids they will accept.

They mostly compare you to other kids in your school to see how well you took advantage of your school’s opportunities and to account for grade inflation, etc…

Your rank is the best comparison between you and others in your class, and it’s the one that colleges will look at it. They don’t explicitly compare you to other applicants from your school in any other way.

And there’s really not a cap on how many they take from a specific high school, as long as everyone accepted is qualified.
