Do colleges like

Hi CC, you guys seem to be experts on things like this so please help me - do colleges (I mean very good ones, equivalent to HYP) like to see you keep doing some ECs (like an instrument, a sport) from like when you're 5 until senior year in HS? many people suggest me change my ECs since I'm going to start HS. They say it's good to try something new. but I feel so painful to give up anything and I really love them! I play two instruments (one of which since I was 5, the other one since 4th grade) and a sport that I've been doing since I was 7. I do want to get into a good college though. I do well in school and stuff.

Focus on your spelling first, middle schooler.
Why do you have to give them up. Just find another hobby or activity you enjoy.

Do what makes you happy, not what you think will make colleges happy. I think on some level colleges recognize this.

wow I deifnetly don’t think you should give up something you like. I say stick with it. Do lots of ECs in high school ,amintain good grades, play the sports you want, score well on the SAT/ACT and you will be on your way. Sticking to what you like shows you are dedicated and compassionate about what you do. Good Luck :)

DO NOT change your ECs. To continue something you’ve been doing since 4th grade or even since 5 shows committment. Besides wouldn’t it be cool to say “I’ve been playing so-and-so since so-and-so” in your college app? You could probably even write about it in an admission essay if that’s the case. Instead, just add on to the ECs that you already have. Like if you play an instrument, continue playing and join jazz band or an elite band or something. If you play a sport, continue playing & even consider playing in a league outside of school. In addition get into new things in high school that interest you. Like clubs or volunteer. So don’t change; just add on.

“people suggest me change” *** bro you need to learn the language you speak

dude, ECs dont even matter, anyone can just put anything they want. my friend who played piano from age 4 - 9 then quit, and played about 10 minutes every month till now, is going to put piano from age 4 to now

so doesnt really matter bro
