Do colleges look at freshman year GPA?

The title pretty much sums it up.. I am worried that since colleges look at your cumulative GPA, which includes freshman year, it will greatly affect my chances to get in to the college I want to get in (since my freshman year grades weren't exactly the greatest..). So, what exactly happens when colleges evaluate your grades?

Thanks :)

Do a thread search. This topic comes up a lot. Most schools will place less emphasis on it than more recent grades (hence the benefits of an upward trend).

Princeton does not look at freshman grades at all.

Some universities do, I don't see why they wouldn't. If a student does horrible freshmen year, you think they wouldn't consider it? I don't see why they wouldn't.
