Do Colleges look at search history? High school or middle school history?

It isn’t my daughter at all! It was another incoming first year student at her college. I have no idea about the specifics other than an email from the college saying that the incident was called to their attention and they revoked the admission of the student in question.

This morning’s Chicago Tribune had an article stating that this year they know of a dozen students who have had their admissions revolked over something they posted on social media this year alone.

But having said that, an admissions officer spends about 8-10 minutes looking at your application - total. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for internet searches about you, much less examining your cookies or social media posts. For them to withdraw your offer of admission, someone pretty much has to bring the incident to their attention.

Short of a major much-publicized felony, it is highly unlikely they will care what you did in middle school.

Thanks for giving me all this information. What do admissions officers do in those 10 minutes they review your application? Your grades and essay? What classes you did and gpa? SAT scores? My incident was with an outside of school study group in which we were studying for a school competition, but it was outside of school. I don’t use social media, so I should be fine in that aspect. Thanks for your help.
