I'm a senior in high school, and I got two very high B+'s for the first quarter, the rest are A's. Therefore, I am confident that I can raise them in the second quarter (which ends Jan 25). I am concerned that the colleges that I am applying to (some ivy leagues and other colleges) will not receive my second quarter grades (which will complete my first semester of senior year) and make their decision whether to ADMIT me based on my first quarter grades. So my main question is: Do colleges use first quarter or semester grades for ADMISSION (i.e. not checking to see if they should rescind their application?) Thanks!

I think it depends on the college. My top choice college doesn’t look at senior grades at all during the admissions process, which sucks because I have a 2.4 but so far I have a 98 GPA for senior year and they won’t see any of my improvement. And none of the colleges I applied to see second semester senior transcript until after you’re admitted. But it may be different for you. Application deadlines can also help you determine whether or not they will see your senior grades.

Ask the colleges. They know better than a bunch of strangers on an internet discussion board.
This stranger has never heard of transcripts being sent without you saying to send them.

It does depend on college. Ivies and many others require you to submit a mid-year report of your final first semester grades after you have applied and those are used for admission. Many other colleges (most public universities) want no mid-year report and make admission decisions based on grades through junior year. Colleges seldom use any quarter (mid-semester) grades (generally those are only used for early decision or early action by some colleges) and many high schools do not even put quarter/mid-semester grades on your transcript that is sent to colleges.

I think most schools do look at those grades and in fact require that the midyear report be sent in.
