So, I’m taking an very difficult AP course where it’s normal for students to have Cs and Ds in the beginning of the quarter; I’m not the only one, literally all of my friends have 70s or lower in this class (we go by the 10 point grading scale). Most come out of this class with Bs so my current grade probably won’t be my grade by the end of the semester. However, I’m applying for early action at a few of the colleges I’m looking at and I’m terrified that my current grade is going to ruin my application. I’m mostly applying for early action because, according to my counselor, the chance of being accepted when applying for EA is a lot higher at the colleges I’m looking at. I don’t want my current grades to ruin application, though.
TL;DR: Will colleges look at first semester grades when applying for early action?
BUMP
im wondering the same thing, Im taking AP Calc and there is nothing else offered for me to take on the track I took, right now Im doing terrible but most get their grades up to C’s or B’s. Will Colleges think I gave up if I do the same as always in everything else and a little worse in this one class? Its stressing me out so much!
If the colleges on your EA list are among those that want first quarter grades, have your college counselor include an explanation about this teacher’s grading pattern.
DS’ ED school DID want this grades as of the submission date. And when he was deferred by them, they wanted miid-year grades. You probably know this, but the vast majority of schools reject few applicants – most who aren’t accepted are deferred to RD. (I realize this isn’t your question, but if you’re deferred, this will all matter!)
