Im interested in a major in Engineering or Business and I recently failed my Precalc class with a 55. The school I go to is one of the best in NYC and its a very tough curriculum. Do collegs just look at your HS GPA or look at each and every subject.

I'm planning to apply to McGill, U of Waterloo and SUNY Binghamtom.

It isn't a semester grade but jsut a progress report grade for the first marking period.

I generally do good in math at a public standard as I have gotten above 600 in my SAT 1 Math and have passed the Math B Regents which is the toughest standardized exam in the state of NY.

they will look at the grades earned at the end of the semester in each of your classes. For a prospective engineer you can expect they’ll pay special attention to math & science grades.

Do progress report grades even go on your transcript? At my school it’s just final semester grades.

I think the 55 will look very bad, I don’t it matters how tough your school was but a 55 is pretty bad. That said you should still be able to get into college, but Ivy’s might be out of reach unless you have something else that will draw them to you. The 55 will hurt, a C might not hurt that much but 55 is failing, the adcom wants to see students challenge themselves and succeed.

Sorry buddy, but simply put it will come back to hurt you in the long run.

They look deep into your transcript but I don’t think that progress reports show up on that. they dont at my school anyway. it’s just your final grade.

They will not look at your progress reports nor will they look at your first quarter grades unless you are applying ED or EA. If you are applying regular admission the only grades they will see are what you end up with for first semester.

How did you end up doing? Even with a 100 each MP, you’d have an 89. Most colleges just look at semester or year grades, so if you’ve pulled them up, you may be in a better position.

Don’t think colleges see progress reports lol.
