Do colleges mostly look at Core Course GPA or All Course GPA?

The title says it all. Do they mainly calculate and consider Core Course GPA (grades in Math, Science, English, Language, and History) or All Course GPA (all the cores and classes like electives and PE)? I’m worried because my unweighted Core Course GPA is like 0.2 lower than my unweighted All Course GPA…

Most consider core college prep courses regardless of whether you take them as required or elective courses: math, lab science, foreign language, English and social studies (which includes more courses than just History). Some like UCs include visual and performing arts (art, music, theater) in the list. Courses like PE, health, word processing, shop, and any other vocational courses are ignored by most.

First, not all schools recalculate your GPA. Many would just use the number from your transcript. For those who do recalculate GPA, it is up to them whether to include non-core, 4-core or 5-core, freshmen or not, etc.

Like most answers on this site “it depends on the school”.
