I am a VERY good table tennis player…I have won multiple awards at open tournaments and I can beat just about anybody I play. Do you know of any colleges or universities that would give me a table tennis scholarship?? If not, do these table tennis accolades look good at all on an aplication even though table tennis isn’t a varsity sport?

unfortunately they don't, i am also a very good player, learned in china, but a little rusty now, table tennis isn't popular here :(

But does it look good on an application? Does it count as a "special talent" for the UC admissions system. ( If it does that gives me an extra 200 points!!)

Is this truly a serious question?

some college table tennis web sites:
http://www.nctta.org/teams.html
http://www.usatt.org/college/#ACUI%20Table%20Tennis

looks like a club sport.

maybe the college dont give out scholarships, but are the other table tennis organizations that do?

bondsfan, exactly how good are you? i'm curious, I play table tennis also.

o yeah, to answer your question, you have to be exceptional to win any sort of scholarship (mark hazinski got one). however, it'll definitely give you an edge in admissions.

yeah, i am curious too, how good are you?
were you like one of the best in China?(b/c that would mean you are like one of the best in the world)

haha. i doubt it. then he would be on the national team, and he wouldn't spend time here. what's your usatt rating?

suze, this most definitely is a serious question. table tennis just isn't very popular here, and it's seen as a "basement" game, rather than a competitive sport.

To answer your question I am very good. While am not on any national team, I have won Tons of trophies at major tournaments!!

Bondsfan, that doesn't say anything. Colleges care about national awards, rankings. What is your rating?

It also may depend on whether or not a college/university has a table tennis program... if they're recruiting you'd be more likely to get a scholarship, however having any sort of national award can help too.

to the original poster, I can beat you.......:)

I can beat you too...jk...:P
Yeah, it'll make you stand out but I doubt there will be a scholarship like everyone else said...

actually ping pong will help u a lot if u have those 'awards' like u said...cause its unique and it will rally stand out
