Do colleges only consider students for fin aid if they have already been accepted?

For example if the admissions people know that an applicant is not going to be accepted, do the financial aid people even look at the applicant's fafsa, css, etc.? Does admissions send a list of accepted students to financial aid?

Thanks for the help!

I think this varies from school to school. I work at a large state U, and we only package accepted students for financial aid. I honestly don’t know how it works at smaller, more selective schools with a set admissions notification date.

I work at a smaller private college and we look at everyone’s info until we find out if they were denied admission or withdrew.

so if a college asked me very recentley for some extra fin aid info and their admission decisions come out by the end of this month, does this mean that they are definetly considering me for admissions?

No. If they don’t have rolling admissions, they most likely process all applicants because they have no idea who will or will not be accepted.
