The top colleges even read and consider your SAT essay for admission.

My admissions counselor, who used to be a dean of admissions at one of those top schools you listed, said that while many do officially consider the writing score, they do not weight it nearly as much as they do the reading and writing scores. Some do, but most consider it as an aside - that is, they consider the 1600 score, and then say, “oh, he got an 800 writing? that’s great!” or, “oh, he got a 600 writing? maybe not so great.”

^ Yes, silverturtle usually knows what he is talking about. :)

…all right then.

Hmm Silverturtle, UChicago does NOT consider the writing section?
I figured a school that puts a lot of weight on essay writing WOULD do so.

Darn I was thinking of applying and writing is my best section.

Now THAT’s a stretch.

I think UChicago prefers quality writing, not speed.

Chicago places emphasis on writing within its application. The SAT Writing scores are listed on Chicago’s College Board webpage but the section is presently not evaluated for admission purposes.

@monstor344: out of curiosity, why would you say that SAT essays are not read or considered for admission at top colleges?
