hello. i want to get into a good college, such as Columbia or NYU. i am taking both the SAT and the ACT and was wondering if colleges give students who submit their SAT score more preference than those who send their ACT score.

No, I don’t believe that colleges possess a preference.

lets say i get a great score on both the SAT and the ACT. which one should i send to colleges? any preference?

you can send both your ACT and SAT score

You should compare and contrast your scores and submit the one that you find to be the most preferable.

DS recently received scores. Did ok on SAT (1870), but very well (31) on ACT. Sent both scores automatically. Will his lower SAT scores hold him back from admissions to selective schools compared to if those scores had not been sent? They say they only look at the hightest scores, but maybe that is for a specific test?

No, the colleges will solely view his highest score.

phew!!! : )

Colleges will see both.

What will happen to the scores is decided by the admissions office. Some automatically filter out the poor scores before they are read by the admissions officer. Some do not.

My guess is the importance of this issue is highly dependent on the judgments of each individual admission officer.
