Do colleges question your major if you didn't do well in a class pertaining to it?

I took AP bio junior year, and I received a B- both semesters. I want to major in biopsychology(I love psychology but I want a B.S., not a B.A.) at UCSB but I’m afraid they’ll deem me an unlikely admit because of the B- . Additionally, ap scores haven’t come out yet and I’m almost certain I did terribly on the AP bio test, so would they question why I want to pursue this major so badly?

Would it be wise to pursue this major anyway or should I pick a subject I performed well in?

Hi! Just a heads up that I believe the BA Psych major is changing for 2016. You may want to email the department for more details. I copied this from a previous post:

UPCOMING CHANGES FOR FALL 2016: The Psychology, B.A. will be discontinued and
replaced by a new major, Psychological and Brain Sciences, B.S., beginning fall
2016. The B.A. in Psychology will continue to be available to transfer
applicants (but not freshman applicants) in fall 2016 and fall 2017. Transfer
students may also choose to apply for the new B.S. in Psychological and Brain
Sciences beginning fall 2016.

PSY 3, 5, and 7 will not be part of the new major. PSTAT 5A, which is now an
option, will be required instead of PSY 5. Two quarters of general chemistry and
two quarters of biology will be required. General psychology (PSY 1), one
calculus course (MATH 34A or 3A), statistics (PSTAT 5A), and two quarters of
general chemistry (CHEM 1A-1B) must be completed before enrolling in the new
classes - PSY 10A (Statistics in Experimental Psychology) and 10B (Methods in
Experimental Psychology). PSY 10A and 10B, which will be unique to UCSB, will
teach statistics and methods at a higher level than was previously possible in
PSY 5 and PSY 7. Biopsychology (PSY 3) will no longer be taught at the
lower-division level.

@BayAreaRecruiter haha thank you for letting me know! That new class actually sounds far more interesting than what I had hoped! So this major is available to the undergraduates for admission so long as required classes are completed, right? Aw, I really want to go to UCSB now.

Sounds like it, but I’m really not sure. Hopefully more will be posted online once the changes take place next school year. My husband received his BA in Psych from UCSB so the thread about the changes caught my eye :). Good luck to you! You’ll have a blast!
