Do Colleges Report Weighted or Unweighted GPA

Do colleges report Weighted GPA?

The average highschool gpa for UCLA freshman was 4.35. Isn’t UW out of 4 and W out of 5?
Also for example Purdue’s average gpa is 3.72 and the middle 50% is between 3.5 and 4.0 but when you look at their 2015 common data set their avg GPA is a 3.04 so is the first one weighted? If it is which colleges report weighted and which colleges report UW GPA? Thanks

Harvard: 4.03
Stanfors: 4.18 and it specifically sais on a 4.0 scale

I never look at colleges based on GPA. Some use unweighted, others use weighted; it’s simply too difficult to compare the schools. SAT/ACT averages are usually a better gauge on the school’s academic expectations.

Example: A state school could easily claim “Average GPA: 3.85.” That GPA is weighted. Then, a top 20 school could say “Average GPA: 3.9.” By itself, it doesn’t look like much difference, until you realize the latter is unweighted. Regardless, standardized testing is the easiest metric to see differences.

It is SUPPOSED to be an UW GPA per direction from Dept of Ed but Schools game it.
