Do colleges see/care about high school attendence

I am currently a junior in high school, I have missed 8 or 9 days of school this year and I missed 7 last year. All my absences are excused - I get sick a lot and several absences are from doctors appointments- and my poor attendance does not reflect on my grades at all (I have an A+ average). Will my attendances be seen and/or taken into account? I am interested in pretty competitive schools, if that makes any difference.

It may show up on the transcript. If it is a sick leave or with excuse, I think it should be indicated differently from simply skipping school. You can find out from your GC. I don’t think you should worry.

This doesn’t sound excessive. You should meet with the College Counselor, though, to be sure that there is nothing on your transcript that would draw attention to those absences. If there is, then the counselor’s statement should remark on how your grades demonstrate your ability to manage adverse situations. I doubt that this will present any problems. Be sure that your teacher recommendations come from those who weren’t bothered by your absences. Remember, also, that most large, public universities do not request transcripts until you are admitted.
