My son was really sick the first quarter of this school year. As a result, he received a couple of D's on his report card for the quarter due to some assignments being turned in after the quarter ended. My son assures me that his grades for the semester will be close to all A's.

Does anyone know if colleges see quarter grades on their transcripts, or do they just see the semester grades?

Colleges can only see what the high school sends them, so it depends on the high school. My d's high school sends only final grades for 9-11, not quarter or exam grades, and a "composite" semester grade for the first half of grade 12.

Check with your son's guidance counselor to be sure.

Transcripts of high schools generally give grade for semester and not midterms so check with yours to confirm that. Where midterm grades can usually be an issue is for those who apply ED or EA and the college asks for midterm grades from first semester.
