I know that colleges don’t really care much about your 2nd semester senior grades as long as you don’t fail or anything. However, can they see the courses you sign up for that semester/do they take that into consideration during admissions?
Some background: I really want to sign up for an AP course next spring, but my school is barring me from doing so because I have a low GPA (89.75) due to being sick last year. I was able to sign up for 3 AP courses, including a single-term AP Macro, for next fall, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to take AP Micro next spring. These are the only 3 AP courses I’m taking in HS; I’m worried that only being able to take a single-semester course next year will further dampen my chances at admissions.
When you fill out a college application, you will self-report any classes you plan to take Senior year, so the answer is yes. Many colleges will also ask for a Mid-year grade report/transcript and will see the 1st semester grades for your Senior classes.
You could possibly take MicroEcon at a local community college or on-line.
What if you aren’t sure if you’re able to? I talked with my guidance counselor the other day, he said there might be a possibility I could take AP Micro because I was sick a lot of last year, if I show strong performance over the next 2 semesters. What happens if you put it on, but end up not being able to take the course?
Compared to taking the AP course at your high school like regular students, would colleges look on either of these less favorably? Would most colleges (for students in the ~3.7 or above GPA range) give/not give credits for these out-of-school courses?
You can still report the class as planned for 2nd semester. If you are unable to get into the class due to circumstances beyond your control, you would update the colleges with the new schedule information. And no, the colleges would not look down on taking the course on-line or at CC, if you cannot take it at your HS.
