Do colleges send decision letters by snail maisl or emails or both at the same time?

Is there any tradition followed by specific colleges? Could you give some examples? Thank you.

So far my son has received four acceptances. One came by US mail; two came through email, followed by US mail; the fourth came through a phone call from the admissions office, followed by an admissions packet in the mail.

I think each college has its own way to do it. Check your email daily; check your mailbox daily; eventually the good (or bad) news will come!
