Do colleges verify extracirriculars after you get accepted?

Oh okay HRSMom! I have just one last question. When you say that they could do something if they found something odd do you mean if they found something odd during the admissions process or would they go back over my application over the summer to see? Thanks!

Just chill. They likely would not go back. And if you were truthful, what does it matter when they look?

I highly doubt they are concerned enough to check during the summer. If a flag had been raised they would’ve checked while reviewing your application. I would say you’re fine.

The types of things they might verify are big things like awards or published papers. I don’t think they bother about the number of hours spent volunteering or working. I think the important thing is that you do them. I wouldn’t worry about it.

OP, if you did what you said you did, why are you in a panic now?

Well collegemom3717 the place where I volunteer doesn’t keep long term detailed records and I wouldn’t know how to prove that I actually volunteered there if asked. My counselor however knows about this so I’m hoping that if they want any verification they will just ask her rather than call me and demand for proof.

Don’t even give this another thought. It is not going to happen.

Agree, relax. If you have done the work there is nothing at all to worry about.

I really don’t think there’s any requirement that ECs be verifiable. For example, if you said “independently cleaned up parks multiple hours per weekend”, you likely can’t verify that, and they don’t care.

Presumably you could get rescinded if you said you did X, then they talked to the leader of X who says they know everyone involved, and they know you weren’t one of them. IOW, if they find evidence that you’re lying, that’s rescind-able. Lack of evidence doesn’t mean anything at all.

Assuming you’re telling the whole story - I don’t get why you’re panicking. Presumably you knew that this was hard to verify when you submitted it.

A school did so for our child.

One my friends also had to do it

Myyalieboy I assume that was before decisions were made right?

In contrast to others on this thread, I think it would absolutely be done after you were accepted, not before. There are just too many applications to bother with this.

^ haha cause after burning their eyes from reading hundreds of applications they want to check every single students ECs yeah sure bud

I will be honest however the reason I’m asking is because I exaggerated some of my ECs but I also told my GC and reccomenders about them

^^no need to get condescending. You asked a question and thshadow was answering it. As for your question, it really depends on the school and there is no objective rule. Sometimes they check beforehand. Sometimes they check afterwards (like the UCs) and they may not check at all. Sometimes they find inconsistencies and if they figure out your application may not entirely have been true, you could get kicked out even when you’re already attending. (It’s rare, but it happens.) But it looks to me like you just want us to reassure you that they won’t check after you’ve been accepted. So sure, why not. Maybe they’ll never know.

Oh, I realize my response could be misconstrued.

I think that schools would almost never check anything. But if they were to check - my guess is it would happen after acceptance, not before. (I meant to say “it would absolutely be done after if it were done at all.”)
