Do courses matter if I want to transfer?

<p>I am an incoming sophomore majoring in chemical engineering at UCSD. I intend to transfer, for example, to UCBerkeley, Umichigan or Gtech. My GPA is 4.0. But I find some problem with the courses I have taken. In my freshman year I took several upper-division classes (which most of students take at second year and so on), but I didn't take some basic courses such as lower-division lab and writing classes, which are required on the transfer admission website.
So, will my "biased" preference for courses have a negative impact on my admission to those schools?
I can finish those lower-division classes at my sophomore year, but some of them have to be finished after I submitted my application.</p>

<p>You should check the transfer requirement of each school. Also, not all credits are transferable, particularly upperclassmen classes that may not have matching courses.</p>

If the courses are required then they probably won’t accept you. Definitely check with each school.</p>

<p>If you skipped the beginning courses with AP credit, you need to check the AP credit policies of your transfer target schools to see if your AP credit fulfills the similar requirements for your major at those schools.</p>

<p>I skip most of my chemistry, physics and math lower division classes via AP. That’s why I can take chem upper directly. But What I am worrying is social science and writing class. My school entails incredibly 3 social science classes. I think, for example, lot’s of students cannot finish the requirement of UCB transfer before submitting the application (deadline 11.30). </p>

<p>How many credits (including AP)? There is a limit on transferable credit at UMich I think.

<p>With AP I meet most of the requirements. But can I finish some of them, for example composition, after I submit my application?</p>

<p>The Composition is listed as pre-requisite, so it is likely required. But you should ask the CoE admission office directly. So you did not take AP Eng/Composition?</p>
