Is it only F's that count as failing for pass/fail classes? Do D's or D-'s count as failing too?

Thanks!

A D is a passing grade, but I have to say, Rice doesn’t like to see D’s on a transcript

“Rice doesn’t like to see D’s on a transcript”

How so? They won’t see it if it’s listed as a P, right?

Ask your counselor or whoever is in charge of grades whether D’s count as passing. Then also ask if your transcript only shows P/F or if it shows letter grades or 0-100 or whatever.

If you set it to Pass/Fail, I think any passing grade counts as a P.

Students should be aware that while a grade of P does not affect their grade point average, a grade of F is counted as a failure and is included in their GPA.

This is correct. Any grade that is not an F will show up as a ‘P’ and not count towards your GPA
