Do deferees have an above-average chance in RD?

does it really mean something to be deferred in EA, consideration the RD acceptance rate is going to be even lower than EA--about 9% as opposed to 18%, I think?

I heard it's around 1% actually....

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

no, it's around 5%, so it's below average...

So why does my deferral letter say "I can tell you that the rate of admission for candidates who applied early and were deferred has generally been the same as or slightly higher than the rate of admission for the rest of the Regular Decision candidates"? Does anyone else's say that?

Yeah, mine says that too...

probably just trying to make us feel better

Um, I doubt anyone has accurate numbers on this. If someone does, I'd love love love to see them and would in fact pay good money.

At the least, it is what the letters say--same or better. It is skewed because of the EA pools differences from RD.

There are accurate numbers.... I can find the source for you later, but my dad found an article saying that last year's deferred students had about a 10-11 percent acceptance rate during RD. Not much higher than the usual 9%, but it's something...

I'd like to say yes (since i was deferred too).
at the very least, applying EA shows that we really like yale right?
but on the other hand, i've been reading on the other threads that many legacies get deferred EA then accepted later... that could screw up the statistics.

IF my memory is correct from Last year
scea acceptance rate about 19.5 %
ed applicants who were defered, then get accepted in the next round at about a 10% rate whereas
those who just apply rd have an acceptance rate of about 5 %

so how you see this is depending on glass half empty or glass full outlook

I'm applying RD. Thanks for the 5% statistics. Very reassuring

Seeing as I have legacy, I like yipeng's outlook, getting defered stinks tho...

wow hearing 5% makes me feel a little bit sick.
