Hi everyone! I'm a Princeton sophomore, and I just dropped a course (right before today's deadline) and am wondering whether it will show up in any way on my final transcript.

I'd always assumed that dropped courses, even those dropped past regular add/drop period, wouldn't show up on the transcript, but I was just talking to a friend at a state school who said that courses dropped past the equivalent of shopping period show up as "D"s on their transcripts; I just wanted to double-check that Princeton's policy is different.

I couldn't find anything conclusive online, but I figured that if anyone would know, it'd be CC!

It depends on the university. Some schools include the notations of W (withdraw), WP (withdraw pass), and WF (withdraw fail) during the entire academic term. Other schools use W (withdraw) after a certain date, but do not include the course on the student’s transcript prior to the university’s drop date. You can usually look up “Grading Symbols” for your school and the accompanying explanation of the symbol (or send an email to the Registrar’s office) to figure out the policy.

So long as you dropped the course before the deadline (ie get it signed by your advisor and dropped off at West College), it will not show up on your transcript. Almost like you never took the class.

If you waited until after the deadline …
