see topic :) thanks a lot! hope i don't have to send lol

i HOPE Not

no .

I am. 10 char

wait, gettingin we can just CHOOSE TO send grades in??

Im pretty sure 1st quarter grades are optional but I sent them along anyways because they show that i am keeping up my grades even in senior year.

They're not...that's what that mid year school report's for...it says it's required, even for ED candidates (?).

how could u send you mid year school report for ED? First term ends in the new year, way past when decisions return. My college counselor told me that some people like to send in first marking period grades but it is optional.

Jon, we are talking about 1st quarter grades, not 1st semester.

ok, since they are optional (yes?) i'm not sendin lol

Yeah haha 1st quarter grades are optional

how do you guys know that they're optional? i just thought we obviously shouldn't send them because they didn't ask for them.

If you get in ED, you still have to submit the midyear report cuz if you're failing or something they could resind your application.

as kraor said, how do you guys KNOW that we EVEN HAVE THE CHOICE OF SENDING FIRST-MP GRADES IN?? How do we know that they'll read it and take it into consideration, esp when other applicants don't have theirs in?

my councilor said that you can send first quarter grades to EA/ED schools if you want.

On the question of why they would take into consideration your grades if everyone else doesn't have them submitted: the same reason they take into account extra recs, optional 'what else' form, music cds, art portfolios, etc.

My question is, is sending it in truly optional? Like sort of in the way that if you take an AP Class and dont send in the grade people may assume you did much worse than you really did...Do you guys think Princeton will assume we're not doing well if we don't send our grades in? Will they not notice it?

Pton says absolutely nothing about 1st quarter grades in the app, and so I assume they do not want them. They do, however, ask for AP scores (or at least have a place for them, though it's optional). I don't know about you guys, but I don't think my school ever formally reports our quarter grades, only our semester ones. So no, bidkid, I don't think they'll assume you're doing badly if you don't give them grades--they'll probably just think you're following their directions exactly, which is just fine with them.

well what do you guys think? say i have all A's, should I send my grades in? would it matter if i already have a strong transcript?

i have all a's and i'm not sending it in. i don't think it matters since your transcript is strong already. it's not like under the "optional" section there's an "optional 1st quarter grades for ED applicants" form or anything (like there is for an optional rec, etc). they don't even mention it.

I bet they ask counselors to send in transcripts of applicants who have an upward trend or have had weak grades in the past.
