I saw that beautiful parking garage this summer when I visited the campus. If you dont have a car how do you get around? Thanks for the info.

freshmen are allowed to have cars. if you don’t have a car you either use the bus system or you get a ride from a friend.

using the bus system can suck but i have fond memories of it because my friends and i used it extensively to go explore ktown and little tokyo during my freshman/sophomore years.

To get anywhere you probably need a car. The local area is not the best and bus system is very inconvenient. Sorry

Many if not the majority of freshman do not have cars, but there are many options. USC has Campus Cruiser, a free shuttle that operates within a specific radius (?) from campus. The brand new metro station near USC is operational now, which can help you get to many other locations. And then there are the students with cars, who are often designated drivers for group outings. Here’s a link to USC transit, and from there, you can click on Public Transit

Thanks so much everyone. I also saw the zipcar site that someone suggested.

I was just going to chime in with the zipcar suggestions. S1 attended w/o his car freshman year–his friends had cars and it all worked out. He’s had his car on campus the past 2 years and it’s very helpful (he now often drives others) but more expensive. Driving in L.A. is kind of a wild experience if the student isn’t used to the freeways, the congestion, and the lay of the land.

Zip cars are great. You only really need a car if you want to explore LA (and I do recommend that, it’s a wonderful city). Otherwise, befriend people with cars. =P By sophomore year, though, you’ll probably need one.

a car has been useful for getting groceries
