My son has a truck but the parking permit is $690 dollars a year. So I'm thinking it's not worth it for him to take the truck to school. When he needs to come home we will come pick him up. Any thoughts from current/former students or parents?

I don’t have a Tech student, but live in Tech’s backyard. I can’t fathom why a student would want or need a car. Tech Trolley is everywhere and free, the campus is very walkable (albeit large) and Marta or the Atlantic Station shuttle will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go other than the suburbs of Atlanta.

My freshman D will not be bringing a car

I won’t be bringing one. It’s downtown ATL. Everything is nearby and transportation provided by the school gets you places.

My son’s roommate is from GA, 1 hour south of atlanta. He has a car and occasionally he will go home in the weekend. But thats the only time the car is used, unless his friends pile up on him to drive to chipotle or somewhere else.

You definitely don’t need one here. There’s a big grocery store (Publix) right by campus, dining facilities and restaurants nearby, and a train that goes directly to the Airport and two of the biggest malls in the Atlanta area. I have a car but it definitely doesn’t feel worth the parking fees. Your son will meet people with cars.
