I know that getting bad grades senior year, especially second semester is often taking seriously by colleges.

Will they see someone who has great grades senior year (1st semester) with a better light (considering most students take their hardest courses senior year) or does it really not matter that much when compared to grades of previous years as long as you're doing okay?

I heard yes. If you're taking advanced courses during senior year and do well come time for the mid-year report, some privates take that into account...probably...

Senior year grades could be very important if you are waitlisted. They also helped my son pick up an additional $1,000 in college scholarship money just by going from a 3.48 to a 3.50 GPA second semester.

First semester grades are very, very important because they're the most recent reflection of your academic skills and work ethic. But honestly, second semester doesn't matter at all. Just don't fail any classes, and if you REALLY want to play it safe, you can avoid C's. But if you're usually a high A student and you drop to low B's, no one's going to care.

yeah 2nd semester senior year -- if you don't have any APs or other classes that include an important end-of-yr test -- take it easy, you earned it

Not only will your second semester grades matter should you end up on a wait list, they would also be very important if you ever want to transfer. In my opinion, everything counts.
