I'm wondering if on average, the GPA improves or gets worse after the first year of college... Any official stats or anything???

it probably slightly gets better each year

There’s a reason some schools make the first few terms pass/fail. College freshman grades are in general… quite frankly, bad.

Mine improved. I had a 3.06 semester GPA in the fall of freshman year. As a sophomore, my fall semester GPA was a 3.7. I learned better. Based on my exams so far, I’m projecting that I will get a 3.8 this semester.

Some people’s GPA gets better because now they understand how to handle the course load. For others, it might get worse not because they are lazy, but because of their major.

There should be a prompt on CC when you want to post a new thread that reads:

“Did I put any thought into this, or did I pose some ridiculously vague question that nobody will be able to accurately answer because I am an anonymous poster and no internet stranger can favorably weigh in one way or another on my behalf, even if they do somehow compile the objective - but necessarily absurd and probably irrelevant - statistical information? If the latter, please click the back button on your browser.”

Mine went down since the competition increased as the top students were all in the same classes in later years. That and you no longer have the idiots to bring down the average.

Oh man. I like the idiots that help with the curve. My 75% can’t be an 85% when you have the bell curve towards the 90% range. Stupid overachievers =(

hehe =P

What happened OP? Did you screw up massively in your classes? You’ll have time to redeem yourself. Just buckle down from here on.

No, I’m getting a 3.87 and am looking on getting into law school, and I just wanna know if I should expect my GPA to fall or not… (because with this GPA, provided do well on the LSAT I can get into pretty much any law school)

I guess one of the reasons I ask is because I honestly didn’t find this first year that challenging at all compared to highschool where I took IB courses…

You can’t really predict how well or terrible you’ll do. Sometimes small factors like the professor you have can affect you. It depends on your major also.

That’s a great GPA though so far. Keep up the good work.
