Hi,I took Algebra 2 and got a B in the class, I am going to start at a CC this upcoming fall so I took the placement exam and placed in Intermediate algebra. Can I tell admissions at my new school that I should start off in statistics?
Could mean that:
a. Your high school’s algebra 2 course was lower quality than expected, since you were not placed higher than intermediate algebra (= high school algebra 2).
b. You forgot some of the material since taking algebra 2.
c. You had a bad day at the placement test.
You can ask but not tell the school. A school may strictly follow its protocol and go by the placement test. I would suggest calling the school to see if your allowed a retake on the placement test. Also find out the name of the test. If it is acuplacer there are online study guides. Also when did you take the test? If you say took it in March for registration it makes sense since you hadn’t covered all the algebra 2 info yet.
The placement exam is designed to place you into the appropriate course.
Unless you can come up with a concrete reason tha their results are invalid, I would go with what they suggest.
http://www.math.buffalo.edu/rur_index.html has some free online math quizzes that may help you assess what math topics you do and do not know.
I was very nervous that day and dam near had a panic attack lol
Just take intermediate algebra. It won’t hurt to retake it again. I mean I started from Intermediate algebra and last semester I completed the calculus sequence
@salazarkevin364 Did you talk to your high school guidance counselor or person in charge of dual enrollment to see what they think about the placement? Did you check on the college’s policy on retakes. I think when my daughter took it they allowed 1 retake after x amount of time.
