i’ve gotten a physical paper that says my involvement in the society as an award, but on my college app should I list it as a e.c?
The standards vary so much at different hs. There are kids on CC now who just finished 9th and are in, others who wont get nominated until much later. Not a tip.
You can list honor societies on your college applications. Colleges look for students with character, leadership, scholarship, and service, which happen to be the four pillars of the NHS. At highly selective colleges, however, it is more likely to be a baseline than a stand-out achievement. It won’t be what gets you in.
List honor societies as awards if you only met the minimum requirements (got the grades, turned in the form with your service hours, etc.), list them as ECs if you were an active participant throughout the year in regular meetings, planning, held an officer position, did fundraising for the group, etc.
No one answer fits every situation. IMO if you are inducted into the honor society and don’t do much then I’d say it is an award. However, if you are actively involved in things the honor society (ex. weekly tutoring, an officer who organized significant events etc.) does then it could be an EC.
