Do I bring anything with me?

I have been scanning the other service academy forums, and they were all mentioning buying boots and breaking them in. i was wondering if there is anything we should come prepared with on I-day. I've heard the word on the street is they will provide everything, but it would be helpful to know about any different shoes, underware, socks, etc. that would ease the transition.

In the packet you will receive with your Permit to Report, there will be instructions on what to bring. The list is short & very generic: 6 pairs of white socks, 6 pairs of underwear, 6 sports bras (females of course!), etc.

The truth is, you can arrive with absolutely nothing on that list and you will be fine. My kid did this on the advice of a midshpman inducted the previous year. I really couldn't believe it myself, but my kid walked through the doors of Alumni Hall with exactly 4 things: a cell phone, a calculator for placement tests, a retainer and a social security card. And wairing a pair of "already broken in" running shoes, of course.

The cell phone is taken away immediately, but returned 2 weeks later for the first call home. It could have been shipped. The first placement tests started in the first few days after I Day so the calculator was a good idea.

I did send the additional underwear & socks two weeks later. Although you will be issued all the clothes you need, with the heat & sweat, your issued supply could run out between laundry days if you change often during the day. You could have a box of this stuff ready to be shipped from home the week after you arrive.

You'll also be issued all the personal items you need (including razors, shampoo/conditioner, soap, washclothes & towels, and for women, feminine hygiene products.) Additional toiletries aren't necessary and can be sent later anyway.

The advantage of bringing as little as possible on I-Day is that you are issued about a million pounds of stuff that you have to lug around all day. You don't need any extra weight.

Ditto....you'll be issued everything you need for plebe summer. Anything extra can be brought during Parent's weekend. It's easier to travel light...plus there's always the Mid Store for essentials during the school year.

ya my bro didnt need a thing....you dont even need a calculator. Just go with your wallet, SS card, the clothes on your back, and motivation

Don't forget your brain and your guts.

Everything else will be issued to you.

i brought my calculator and it was very helpful, you can use it on placement tests.

Parents can send the extra socks and underwear right from Annapolis on or immediately after I-day.
