Do I buy all of the books before class starts?

Well I checked online for the books I need and I got a HUGE list of like 10 books. I was wondering if I need to buy them all before class starts or wait until the teacher tells us which ones we need because it's getting so stressful. Also, because a lot of the books are for the same subject. I am a freshman in college. School starts officially this monday. Heres the list if youre interested:

I would advise asking each professor whether the book is indeed necessary, or if a prior edition would suffice in lieu if one can obtain the homework problems elsewhere.

Geez that’s a lot of books for one semester! I had to buy like 10 nursing books this semester…but I’ll use them this semester, next semester, and fall of next year as well!

I second asking the professor whether the book is necessary or not…and don’t necessarily believe what they say.

My history professor that I had both semesters last year said that we needed the textbook plus 3 or 4 other books…and the textbook was the biggest waste of $90 I could imagine since it sat underneath my bed the entire year and was only opened once! The 3 or 4 others were “necessary” in that we were assigned papers to write based on them…but reading them was pointless. I never got lower than an 89 on any of the 5 short papers we had to right, and I read a grand total of 1 of those 5 books and just pulled out quotes that I wrote around for the rest.

So to make a long story short…wait to buy the majority of your books. Other people will have them, the library will have them, and you don’t want to waste hundreds of dollars on books you’ll never use.

Wait until after the first class. The professor will probably discuss textbooks in class or on the syllabus.

For the time being, I am pretty sure that you only need one of those biology books by Freedman. You can either buy textbook + study guide + online access code in one package, or buy them individually. Study guide and online access might be required for the course (they might use them for homework) or supplemental material for students who are looking for more exercises.

i e-mailed all of my teachers before school started and that saved me about $300.

[two books required for english]: “get xxxxxxxx book, i might change the other one”
[two books required for statistics, stated on the website]: “get one, for some reason the bookstore always states requiring both”
^ what my professors have told me, for example

etc etc
etc

@b@r!um yes I need the online key for sure. But not sure if its cheaper as a package or individually with a used book

@belief Im not sure how to email the teachers or find their emails or if I should. arent the classes gonna be like 200 people+?

help!

First rule of college: do not buy any books before class starts.

Unless your professor e-mails you saying you already have a reading assignment due and make sure to have the book.

But I heard the books are gonna be sold out if I dont get them soon??
