Do I count as first generation?

My dad never went to highschool but my mom did in argentina, so do I count as first gen?

What do you mean by first generation?

If you mean first generation American, then probably. (Making assumptions here, but if neither of your parents were born in America and you were, then you’re a first generation American.)

If you mean the first generation to graduate high school, then no, you’re not, because you mother did. :)

1st gen usually refers to america or college (not usually hs)
so if neither of your parents graduated college, then you are 1st generation (and get +20 points in college admissions)

I thought 1st generation was if you were born in America and your parents weren’t…

^
machinima means 1st generation college-wise. Not immigration wise.

Wait, I was born in Pakistan and then immigrated to the states. What am I considered then?

What is your parents’ status?

They’re immigrants but US citizens

so my parents went to college for two years each but didnt graduate…so does that also make me a first gen? just private message me for an answer

Sucks for us “first-generation” US college students. It’s tough going through this process when your parents don’t know anything but antiquated myths, I feel like I’ve had to pull 100% of my weight college admissions-wise. I also understand that it must be even tougher when your parents don’t value the importance of a college degree.

I’m the first person in my family’s history to go to college in the US… my dad could only go to a small college in Canada for his PhD because of international FA, so I’m left to start a legacy for future generations.
