I realize that synthetic biology is supposedly a the engineering of biology and that MechE and EE are being hired for these bioengineering jobs with the assumption that their knowledge of building functioning systems of things overpowers the molecular biologist learning how to build, but what major (and minor) would set me up best for a job engineering life.

I feel like no matter who answers this questions, you’re going to get different answers. Those who try to give you an exact answer would be lying to you if they said that their way was 100% correct and the absolute best option.

The best major/minor for each individual depends on so many things it’s not even funny.

All I could honestly do is tell you what I’M doing and why and then others could do the same and MAYBE you’d get some ideas about what YOU want to do. If that’s what you want, just let me know.
