Do I even have a chance at UCB,UCLA,UCSD,UCD,UCI,etc.....? Please Chance!

I am sorry if this is a informal or insufficient "chance me" thread, its my first time, so please ask for more information or correct me. (Sorry for some missing info, I will add more later)

I am going to be a senior next year, I am worried about where I might end up. So please help me out to get an idea of where I stand. Well here it is...

Ethnicity/Sex: Indian Male

State: CA

Parent's Income: My parents BOTH lost their jobs this year, most of my junior year was on my parents savings and unemployment. My mom recently got her job back, my dad will hopefully get a job some time in the next few weeks. But, as I said before, they both lost their jobs this year; which was my worst year GPA wise (If that helps at all). When they both have a job, I think they make around 100k-140k.

UW GPA: 3.417
UC GPA: 3.677
W GPA: 3.7 ish

=(

Class Rank: 70-80/ 515 Top 20% for sure, UC wise, maybe top 10%?

SAT: 2050
Math: 680 =/
Writing: 680
Reading: 690

SAT 2:
Math: Coming out Thurs.
History: Coming out Thurs.
Chem: In Oct.

I know I got a +700 for Math, will retake to get 800 if necc. Chem I can pull of a 750+ or a 800.

AP/HON:

My courses have been very rigorous. I have taken 3 or 4 Hon/AP out of 6 classes every year. We cant take AP classes till our Junior year... So, One AP Junior year, 4 next year. Total Hon/ AP classes: 14

USH: Pending 3,4 or 5
Calc AB: Next Year
Stats: Next Year
Gov: Next Year
Ecom: Next Year

EC'S:

Summer Classes:

Took Psychology at a CC my Sophomore summer and got an A

This Summer, I am taking Chem 1A at UC Berkeley through the pre-collegiate program. It is a Undergrad class offered for High school students with a better then a B average. My parents had to bust out a lot of money for this, they insisted I go here, instead of a CC. Its basically a Berkeley class, you get 4 UC credits, a Letter of Recommendation and so on. Hoping to do well in this and get an 800 on Chem SAT.

Clubs:

Mediocre here... CSF 3 years.

Volunteering:

I have worked at a local community center for a program called Teen Leadership Academy. They say working there is as good as being on ASB, Boy Scouts,etc...

Freshman Summer: 88 hours
Sophomore Summer: 80 Hours
Junior Summer: I hope to do 52 hours, will have to try to do this with my summer class.

I tutored math at my school for 30 hours my Junior year, 2 hours a week through the course of the year.

Total: Now: 198 Hopefully: 250. Could be more.... or likely somewhere in the middle.

The schools I would like to go to:

I know some are reaches and some might be easy, please just give me a honest thoughtful opinion.

UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCD
UCI
UCSB
UCM
UCR
UCSC
Cal Poly
Purdue (I have a legacy here)
Any other referrals to other colleges would be helpful

Major: In the end Engineering (Electrical, Bio, Chem)

Thank you very much! Leave a link for a chance back!

somebody please chance me?

I think it’s a bit hard to chance you, because you have so many pending scores, especially your AP’s. And it depends on your major as well. But looking at what you have now, I think your chances are pretty solid on schools such as UCR, UCSB, UCSC, UCI, and UCD. UCSD and UCLA, you have a pretty good shot, but not guaranteed. Good luck!

Are you really only applying to California schools? I’m sure they aren’t all the same–can you write an essay about what’s unique about each of them?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Jadegreen- Thanks, also I said my Major is probably Engineering.

melissa114- They are all unique in their own ways, I will expand more on this later. By the way, looking at the stats I have, can you think of any other schools? I only know the prestigious schools outside of CA.

Again, sorry for the pending scores guys, some will be in tomm and I will have all of them soon enough. Just try to chance me the best as possible.

if u get at least high 600 on your sat 2’s, u can prob get into all of uc’s. im not sure about ucla and ucb tho; they usually want higher gpa’s than yurs. also purdue legacy might help u.

which cal poly r u applying to? slo is harder to get into than pomona

92jjxx, I am not really sure, I just mentioned that hoping it was good enough for a safety?

As for SAT Scores:

Math 2: Urghh… 680. Will retake this and I am sure I will get a high 700, whole summer to study and I am confident I can.

History: 630, Should have just not done this.

Chem: I will take this in October. The Berkeley class and summer studying, also I am good at Chem; hopefully a good score (750-800).

The UC’S only take your top 2 scores, so not so worried about USH. I will retake Math 2 with Chem, hope for the best scores.

Goddamn…I lost what I typed for you. it got lost all the sudden… :

And I needed to run off… I’ll write Lemon’s detailed analysis of The One Legend TOMMOROW. GUARANTEED.

Ucsd/ucd/uci/ucsb

I’m sure you can get into Purdue with a legacy and if you can possibly raise that Math score on your SAT. Purdue soon will not be that “oh that school I will get into easily” anymore. Unless you did well on your SAT II Math, I would possibly send that score to the Admissions Office with your app. If not then try to score higher on the Math, since Engineering obviously has alot of math in it.

^ Thanks guys.

Jimgotkp, I am not going to be taking the SAT 1 again. I took the SAT 2 Math and unfortunately got a 680. I will re retaking this October, and I am sure I will score a high 700, and I hope to get an 800.

Others please keep chancing.

My ideal school to go to is UCSD. Berkeley or LA would amazing, if i got in.

Are there any schools on my list that I can get in for SURE?

bump. 10char

UCB - in
UCLA- raise SAT and match
UCSD- match
UCD- idk
UCI-idk
UCSB-match or in
UCM-idk
UCR-idk
UCSC-same as UCLA
Cal Poly-idk
Purdue-in cuz of legacy

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736982-another-chance-threaddd-wooo-hooo.html

swim, UCSC is not the same as UCLA, UCSC is way easier, definite in. And I wouldn’t say UCB in either, more of a reach.

Swim lol. If I got into to the schools you said I would… wow, I would be the happiest guy in the world.

I know UCB and UCLA are reaches, maybe even high reaches. But, SD?

The essay on your application matters a lot too. Scores and numbers aren’t everything.

Your GPA is a tad low for UCLA and UCB, but I think you’ll get in if you write a good essay.
I got in to UCB and my SAT scores were lower than yours.

This year UCB admitted on the philosophy of “diversity”, so bringing something new to the table would help. At Cal Day, they said one admitted student was a “world champion finger skater.” Not kidding.
