Do I even have a chance for Yale?

Freshman year: 4.7 GPA (straight A's)

Sophomore year: 4.4 GPA (two B+'s)

Junior year: 4.5 GPA (three B+'s)

Senior year: (hopefully) 4.8 GPA

My school also does only final grades, so I have 5 B's out of about 21 classes :(

I'm also ranked in the top five out of 300 students. My school is also competitive? (ranked in the top 25 in the state). Oh yeah, and I'm Asian. :(((

I'm just really worried about my transcript. Everything else is practically set (strong teacher recs, SAT scores, national awards). I don't want to be immediately eliminated because of poor grades. I really spread myself out too thin junior year :(

I also really appreciate everyone's feedback on this :). I realize I've been asking these kinds of questions a lot, and if you've answered a post from me before, I just want you to know that I'm really grateful for your help and I've taken your feedback into consideration even if I didn't reply to you :)

5B + 16A would give you a uwGPA of 3.76. It is a bit low for Yale, but your course load and class rank can make up for that. So don’t worry too much about that.

By the way, if it helps, I found out that my unweighted gpa is around a 3.81 (because our school takes A-'s/B+'s into account and stuff). But I’m sure Yale would recalculate it as a 3.75. Oh well…

Thanks for the reassurance though :)

You definitely have a shot, but Yale is a reach for anyone. In my book, as long as you have a 3.7 UW and above, a 2250 SAT and above or an ACT of 33 and above, you have at least a SHOT at every Ivy school. It’s far less predictable than any other school group.

Unfortunately, the one thing working against you is that you’re Asian. I don’t think it’ll break your application, but it might subject you to a little more scrutiny than “URM” or “white” students. (I say it self-mockingly- we all wish we could be as smart as you).

In my opinion, you have a shot. Any other non-Ivy, non-MIT school in the USNWR Top 30 will welcome you with open arms gaping with cash. But Yale’s different. Expect a 20% chance of admission.

Can you chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517788-chance-johns-hopkins-ed-will-chance-back.html

^^Quote from you: “any other non-ivy, non-MIT school in the USNWR Top 30 will welcome you with open arms gaping with cash”…Are you that UNINFORMED??? That is a kind way of saying something else…Have you heard of Stanford (non-ivy) the toughest school to get into in the country, Chicago (non-ivy), Caltech (non-ivy)…

…you seem to have a BIOPIC view of schools that are “centered” in the northeast…not very intelligent thing to do…by the way, there is a WIDE variance of selectivity amongst the ivy-league schools.
