Do I even have a chance (UC to UC)

I'm a mechanical engineering major, 3.66 GPA in the honors program, 3.75 in the major at UCSB
Do I even have a shot at transferring?

Thinking of
UCD
UCSD
UCLA
UCB

Thoughts for an essay would be about being admitted to only one engineering school out of the 10 I applied (not SB) and my experience working my way into the major and how I can accomplish goals I set even when others doubt me

i want to say i have a shot, but a uc2uc engr transfer with the current uc budget makes it seem that i have nothing going for me...

That’s a pretty impressive GPA. I’d say you have a shot at all those schools, though it’s tough to tell how good of a shot during these uncertain times.

This is the place you want to be: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/726410-official-2010-uc-uc-transfer-thread.html</a></p>

are you saying you wont give me your opinion without me posting to your thread?
and not that its a bad thread or anything, but imho it seems pretty dead and when the creater wrote half the posts of longer threads, it just doesnt seem very promising

that’s a pretty decent GPA. Will you complete all your pre-req’s before you transfer?
keep in mind that UC-UC doesn’t get the priority as CC-UC students, so while I think you have a good shot, nothing is for sure. But definitely apply because you never know.

Uh no Arch, he was giving you a good resource for your questions. The people in that thread are pretty knowledgeable about the UC-UC transfer process, since most of College Confidential is not.

To answer your question, you have a good shot at all those schools. It is mostly a numbers game, and if you have the numbers (above the average GPA for your major), you got a good shot.

yea, my GE’s and prereqs will be done before
and yes i know that uc’s dont have a great shot which is why even with my grades, i honestly feel pretty doubtful about the whole thing

Yes that’s exactly what I mean. I will not respond to anything you say unless you post in my crappy thread. But if more people post in there, maybe someday it won’t be so crappy and will blossom until a beautiful flower. Nonetheless, you seem like a jerk and I changed my mind about my invite to post in there. Stay in here and insult.

For what it is worth, I think your thread is a beautiful flower, arcade.

to arcardefire:

i do admit to being quite rude, i apologize for my insincerity, and wish you the best of luck in your transfer application,

your gpa seems solid, but you definitely do have reason to be concerned about prereqs, not that its the exact same, but i have a friend who had a 4.0 at a ccc and completed the prereqs for haas but not usc’s bus school, and didnt get into usc, not that cal is a bad alternative, i just know that usc and cal do get picky sometimes about prereqs

but if a 3.94 says anything about a person, it says he can get his work done so i would say you are far far far from out

^I don’t think arcade is/should be worried about getting into Berkeley with that GPA lol.

Don’t worry about it archileta, you’re forgiven haha.

And Cali Trumpet, I actually am a bit worried because Berkeley seems pretty brutal on UC to UC transfers, with an acceptance rate that’s like 13% or something. I mean, I wouldn’t say I have no reason to be worried just because I have a good GPA. But there’s no point in being “worried” anyways, just gotta craft the best app. possible and hope for the best.

looking at uc statfinder fall 2008 for berkeley:

for computer information and sciences (not sure if thats the same as cs)
from any school (ccc’s, uc’s, and others)
3.6-4.0 gpa

31 applied, 18 got in (58%)

now engineering on the other hand…
from non-ccc schools
3.4-4.0 gpa

78 applied, 23 got in (29.5%)

The reason these numbers are skewed is because the 58% includes the ccc’s
The engineering acceptance rate from cc’s is in the 60%'s if you have a 3.8-4.0…

so this is still pretty vague

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_select_criteria.html</a></p>

Right there it says they only accept 12% of applicants from four year schools. Damn that sucks.

That’s interesting. I never saw that before. I think those stats are a little deceiving however because they don’t talk about GPA. Merced for example has a transfer rate about the same as the other mid tier UCs. I bet for you, Arcade, something like 75%+ of people with your GPA get in.

75% from UCR though? Seems pretty a little too high there. I’d bet more like 30-50%.

What do you mean. Community colleges have TAG. That’s why community college numbers are so high. I bet the average applicant GPA at all the UCs from four years (except LA/CAL) is around a 3.0, which would explain the low acceptance numbers.

i guess i just stay in Davis to pull up my GPA from 3.0 to a higher grade.
i am also in a mechanical engineering major

I think I’m missing something. If you run stat-finder for all 4 year transfers, the numbers are a lot better. [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/drawtable.aspx?track=1).
