Do I even have a chance??

I’m not even sure if ill even go to a decent college/university…I’m a sophomore and I live in Virginia, in fairfax county, where we have a pretty good education but my grades have been so bad… I will probably have like 2 C’s as my final grades and all the rest A’s for sophomore year!!! This year is so terrible…and I don’t know if I have participated in a lot if stuff…I’m the type of person who works hard but doesn’t study for the tests so I do bad…and freshmen year I had A’s and B’s ad had like a 3.8ish gpa but idk if ill even get into any school TT even though I’m a sophomore, I want to go to NYU or UC schools Pennstate or UNC but I don’t think so with my grades and I plan to get straight A’s junior year and senior because ill be doing classes that I can actually handle… Does anybody think I can get in anywhere??? Also I volunteer in an orchestra and over 60 hours and I’m in key club, nhs, I took the national Latin exam, I did one year of track (both seasons) ad I’m in deca… I plan on doing national English honor society, math honor society (in senior year because I suck in math), medical honor society, and I’m not doing deca because I want to focus more on studies…I didn’t place on anything at all… Can I get in?? And I have never taken my sat (but I did for PSAT but I have to improve it) and I don’t want to go to nova (it’s not a bad school but I don’t want to go still) and vtech is my safety school…

This person I know told me that I sort of have an advantage because other people that don’t live in our county can get better grades but will struggle getting in and we have a high education status…

You will certainly find a university that will accept you, probably more than one too but you need to choose where you apply carefully, not applying only to those highly selective universities that only accept 10% of their applicants. At those schools, it does not really matter how good your application, you have only a small chance of getting in. Instead, choose one or two of your top choices and then start looking for schools that are less selective and that you would be happy attending. That will maximize your chances.

Oh, and when you post, it would help if you write in complete sentences and clear thoughts. Your initial post sounds like stream of consciousness and is almost unintelligible.

Calm down! You’ll be fine. Just make sure you put a lot of time into your apps if you’re worried.

Quite a bit of angst for a sophomore.

So what have you learned from this? Your future is in your own hands. If you want to attend what you consider a good school then do your part.
