Your SAT and SAT2 are amazing obviously (why did you take so many SAT2??) but your GPA is very low compared to other applicants. Is there a reason for that? And how much is your weighted GPA? But I think you might have some chance...:)

Your other posts have contrasting statistics. One thread that you posted stated that you got a 2400 on the SAT I...so why post here that you got a 2390?

That's really lame posting "fake" stats just to fish for compliments or inaccurate predictions.

I asked for the chances for these set of stats, I didnt ask for you or anyone else to try to prove that these are real stats. Get a life - instead of staying on some online forum trying to investigate if what people say is the truth or not.

In that case, this stat set's chances (as far as we can guess) depend on whether or not the listed GPA is weigted or unweigted. If the former, it would be very tough. With the latter, you probably have a shot.

jason4444: okay man, whatever. It's just that most people post their own stats, not sets of stats.

I'm sorry for being skeptical about someone having 6 800's, an almost perfect SAT, 10 5's on AP exams, yet only a 3.55 GPA. Maybe it's just me, but most people would have a hard time completely believing that.

But then again, you should've clarified these were merely a "set of stats." Your title thread is very misleading, "Do I even stand a chance?" as it implies these are YOUR stats and not a hypothetical set of stats, no?

Every time someone gets called on posting conflicting stats, they basically do this:

Person posting conflicting stats: Oooh! You're a nerd! Get off my case! Don't you ahve anything better to do!? Get a life! Nerd!

You're no exception, obviously.

If these are others' or hypothetical stats, clarify. If they are your stats, clarify. It's that simple, but if you post conflicting stats, and people find out, they'll be skeptical. It doesn't mean that their nerds and it doesn't mean they don't have a life, it just means they happened to see conflicting posts and are skeptical. That's simple deduction, and considering the fact that you have a 2390 (or 2400, whatever), you should be able to deduce this fact.

The hypothetical applicant which you desribe would not get in. Stellar SAT scores are not enough to make up for dismal GPA.

The SAT scores may prove intelligence, but academic success in college hinges on more than just pure brainpower - it requires diligence, motivation, responsiblity; and that GPA shows that the applicant has none of these and will therefore not succeed in college.

lol, so you automatically assume that a low GPA means the applicant does not have motivation or responsibility?

ever heard of family problems?

anyways, if you have an upward trend, and say if you have 4.0 in junior year and 1st semester senior year, the college would not think you are unmotivated or a slacker since you have proven that you do work hard and are motivated. So when they are trying to see if you will succeed in their university they wont look at your grades in ninth and tenth but they will look at junior and senior year since that is the kind of work your doing now and what you will probably continue in college.

1) Keep in mind that colleges still calculate a GPA to compare you to other students. These are very selective schools--if you have a good GPA junior/senior, but not soph/frosh, then why wouldn't they just pick a dude with a good GPA all four years? Cause plenty of them apply, trust me.

2) How is 3.55 dismal? Even if it isn't Stanford-class, you're making it seem like it show's the person's lazy, they obviously did some work with half A's and half B's averaged roughly. Furthermore, like jason said, there are other circumstances that might not tell the whole story. Also keep in mind rank is a better indicator cause GPA can vary.

You say GPA can vary but rank can as well. I know lots of people who were at the top of their class who switched to harder schools and their rank dropped significantly...

Orrican is an idiot. he does not even know the context of my school or if there were other factors that affected the GPA and says that I am lazy.

whats`the difference between a 2390 and a 2400 anyway? its like getting a 3.88 g.p.a but telling people you have a 3.9-would you call such a person a liar?
