Do I even have a chance?

My gpa is a 3.5 W and a 1130 SAT. I looked up acceptance rate and saw a 68% acceptance rate and just assumed it was a match/reach. But after doing further research and looking up things I realized its pretty hard to get into. Do I even have a chance? I look like a clown

It’s a big reach. Your SAT is in the lower 25%, and your weighted GPA isn’t too great. It’ll help if you’re in state. What are your ECs like? You’ll need to give more info on your overall application since its holistic review.

Also will depend on major. If it is a popular one, odds are a little low. It is getting late to apply to schools so do not wait any longer to apply.

I am from Virginia. I played 2 sports, have a job, and other small ECs. I applied to Education major

Lilmelo, just a suggestion here - would you consider applying to West Virgina University? You would likely be admitted, out of state tuition is reasonable, big time sports, big time school spirit. Depending on your major, employments statistics can be very good. Morgantown is a great place to attend school. (My in-laws live there and I’ve been there many times.) My wife is an alum and she and all her friends who attended WVU have done very well in their careers (and life).

Best of luck.

Where are you from in VA? NoVa is crazy competitive, but there are a lot of kids from here headed down to SC.

@Lilmelo…We are from NoVa. My daughter applied EA and was deferred. She has a 4.2 W GPA and 4.0 UW. 1170 SAT. She’s taken AP and dual enrollment classes. Varsity sport all 4 years, including captain. Volunteering. A ton of clubs all 4 years. Travel/competitive sport outside of school. USC was her top choice, but it doesn’t look promising at this point. Even if she does get in, she would need a significant scholarship because OOS is too expensive. I think USC was flooded with a record number of applicants this year because they put the application on common app and coalition.

We have a ton of good VA schools that you should still look into, if you haven’t! She has gotten into all of hers so far, including JMU and Christopher Newport. Still waiting to hear from VT and WVU! Oh…and check out Coastal Carolina in SC. It also has a beautiful campus that we’ve visited and is near Myrtle Beach! She got in there with a $7000 per year scholarship. Good luck!

@Froggyjr sorry to hear your daughter got deferred. Surprised with her grades and EC and I guess it was here SAT but I feel she will get in RD. We are from RVA area and my son was accepted EA with lower GPA but higher test score. I guess there was a cut off or something like that. And you are correct about the great schools in VA. My son also got into JUM and CNU and is waiting for VT but I think he is leaning towards USC but we will see. Good luck to her

I think test scores make a huge difference on their EA. My daughter’s info is almost identical to the info of @Froggyjr 's daughter. Only difference is my daughter made a 31.25 on the ACT (about a 1410 SAT). She was admitted on Dec 13 during EA and was promised a scholarship.

My D is in 2nd review as well. 90/100 uw and 27act superscored (two 25s w big swings across subjects). OOS-NY. Met regional rep twice w one being a formal interview. By far her #1 school.

I think D is a coin flip at best. Fingers crossed.

@afbratmama i agree. It’s strange my sons weighted GPA was 3.94 with Ap and Honors classes and good EC but his SAT was 1340 so maybe they really look at the higher test scores even more then GPA. I think he is waiting on VT to make his choice Not sure if he will get in there though
