do I even have a chance?

Harvard, I think, has been everybody's dreams....I really wish I could go there.
can any Harvard accepted/students tell me if I could have a chance of getting in at all?? people make it seem like no body has chance of getting in.

thinking of having over 200 hours by the time I graduate

SAT:

I'm very bad at it....hoping to get it up to at least 2100...which is still kind of low...

SAT subject tests:

thinking of taking one in Chemistry and Math...should I take a third, too? hope to get in the 700's

AP Tests:

Took the Human geography, got a 3. (very bad)
I might take the AP art history, us history, maybe economics. Definately AP calculus and AP Japanese and culture...

Other things: I have been to three diff High school so far. I'm thinking of doing my major in something to do with science and technology...maybe even medical stuff...right now I'm thinking genetics, etc etc...

My GPA is kind of around 3.8 (which sucks, it used to be 4.0). My ranking should at least be in the top 5%...I haven't checked. I'm not the most talented student in the entire school. But, I am very good at subjects like math, science, and technology stuff (computers) All my classes that I have taken are honors or AP except the onces like PE, health, etc. I take the most challenging one offered by my school. I do pretty crappy in social studies...though I managed to get a A in AP human geography, I am still hanging with a B in US history AP.

does having more than one "B" discualify me from getting accepted?
should I even give it a shot?? or is it just waste of time?

Thanks for reading all this, and I appreciate your reply.

You dont know unless you apply. Honestly, no one really knows if you'll get in... even if one part of your aplication is lacking, you could make up for it somewhere else.

If you dont apply, you will be stuck with "what if" for the rest of your life. What's the worst that can happen - you get rejected - well so do 20,000 other people a year. Give it a shot.

When I ended up going to a Harvard information session... one admissions officer said, "The only way you to have no chance of getting in is to not apply."

no chance. sorry

no i think everyone has some amount of chance, large or small.....you never know unless you apply. you should give it a shot.

thanks for all of your responses. Please be mean if you have to. cuz I seriously need an advise. I can't choose a college to go to...

psychotickevin:
thanks for saying no chance...ha ha ha Can you tell me why you thought so? This could help me decide where to apply.

I agree that I won't know until I apply. But you know, if the college has a acceptance rate of like 80%, I think I would definately get in. Any ideas of where (else) I should apply?

Give it a shot.

how are your EC's? you didn't seem to emphasize them very much.

Never say never. It doesn't hurt to try. You have a realistic shot (not a great shot, so don't misintepret), again, so does 80% of the applicants. They all brought something unique to the table, just hope you have that unique intangible quality.

OP

you are mediocre test/grade wise. your ECs are what's really bad. i see no commitment and no leadership.

oh, I am a president of the asian pacific islander club, vice president of the international club, I have helped organize several evens like the athletic awards ceremony, donation to the community shelter, etc. I have received awards: Silver medal for academic excellence(top 5), the most improved nordic skiier trophy, math award, integrated technolygy award, honor roll every year, science award, the tutor certificate, etc etc... I am pretty much the best student in every class except english and social studies. I'm not a native english speaker and I started learning english when I was in 6th grade so I'm not like everyone else. I am in honors though. I was in canada for my freshman year, and my grades were in percentages. I was in the top 5, and my grades were excellent...however, when we convert it to letter grade, it soulds like a really bad grade for a feshman year.

i'm sure you have inputed time into those activities. but the truth is, they aren't gonna cut it for harvard. check out the past admit/reject threads and compare your own against them. you might be unpleasantly surprised.
