Extra
I have self-published two novels that are on sale at amazon.com

*my father is a Dartmouth alum, i don't know how much weight that carries though, and i would be applying early decision. I'm intending to major in English, with a concentration in creative writing

Letter of Rec: should be good, i'm close with my english teachers and my guidance counselor

Essay: I'm a good writter so it should be good, but i was wondering about the content. I have suffered through an eating disorder that has made me depressed for four years. Is this something I should write about, or is it not appropriate for the essay? I feel like how I overcame it would be a great message, but i'm not sure how the admissions office would react.

Thanks for reading this! please comment below, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm interested in Dartmouth, Brown, Northwestern, Middlebury, and Hamilton

I’d really try to bring up the scores and try Dartmouth ED.

anything else? what helped you on the SATs?

also, how personal should the essay really be?

i would really apprecaite an opinion from someone else because my counselor is not very good and isn’t giving me an idea of what colleges are even attainable fore me.

princeton review was pretty helpful for me, but I didn’t take the course, just borrowed the prep book from the library. Depending on your schedule, you can consider taking a course.
I feel like Brown would be a great choice for you honestly, though ED at Dartmouth may boost your chances more.(as a Yalie, I obviously also have to suggest my own school) You can write about the eating disorder, depending on how you frame it. Try to focus on the positive sides, show that you OVERCAME it, and it could work. But I’d suggest sending it to an objective 3rd party (consider GC as opposed to friends for instance) before you send it.

Thanks so much, that’s really helpful. And I’ll check out Princeton review

also, does having alumni relations help very much?

Your one year in track isn’t going to be helping you at all, I’d recommend you just leave that out. A 100 point boost on the SAT should definitely give you a better chance at EDing at the ivies/elites.

Being a legacy helps a lot if you apply ED and are solidly in range. Dartmouth accepts about a quarter of legacy applicants, so legacies get in at twice the normal rate. But they are a highly qualified group. If you can get the SAT closer to their median 2200, you have a real shot.

Thanks for your feedback!

*forgot to add Junior Civitan into volunteering and that I’ve been playing the violin for 8 years (i’m in the school’s advanced chamber orchestra, 1st violin)

also, does sending in an art portfolio help?

Would definitely recommend choosing another topic for your essay.

Sorry! i meant to put in a message for you too. I think you do have a shot at the ivys. dartmouth especially (definitely ED),
and for the SATs try kaplan books, and barrons. those helped me

Thanks, and ur SATs look good, but ur GPA is a little low. You do have a lot of good volunteering and ECs though…

I wouldn’t apply to and Ivy if you cant total your SAT score correctly
…

Why didn’t you ED to Dartmouth?

The schools you mentioned are all reaches, with the exception of Hamilton, which is a match.

Make sure you have a few solid safeties.

O wow I typed in 670 for math instead of 680, haha and yeah I know that they are all reaches, I was just wondering if they were too far of a reach

What’s “too far”? It’s unlikely you’ll get in to Dartmouth or Brown RD with those stats. Middlebury and Northwestern- slightly more possible.
