Business??

Seriously people need to do a bit more research about Chicago - I can’t tell you how many students I’ve INTERVIEWED for Chicago that mention they want to do “business” or “journalism” as a potential major…

Chicago has NO pre-professional programs. No business or engineering or accounting.

Otherwise, to the OP, I certainly think you have a shot. Make sure to write good essays and if you can, interview. Show your passion for the school - but first, please do a little research about the U of C as well…

Ugh. Why are you spamming the world with these posts?

You are a good student. You have the resume of a good student. That – and some effort on your essays, and hopefully some recommendations that do not paint you as a soulless drone – will give you a perfectly good shot everywhere: Chicago, Harvard, Yale, Penn, Stanford, wherever. You won’t likely get into all of them. You could possibly fail to get into any of them if you spout twaddle like “my overarching passion for business”.

It’s seriously not that hard to just look at a list of majors that the school offers. Collegeboard.com is a high school student’s key to not looking silly during the application process.

Also, if you read around on this forum, you will see that we have a bit of an aversion to chance threads. They’re totally unnecessary, and they really don’t accomplish anything.

Finally, quit doubting yourself. The way you question your GPA almost makes me sick. If you end up at UChicago, you will be a frazzled mess if you worry about your GPA that much. You have a shot anywhere you apply.

…I suspect that this may be a case of copy-paste posting. There’s nothing in the actual post that refers to UChicago at all, so this was probably posted elsewhere.

EDIT: This chance thread was posted no less than twenty-one times for various schools. Ick.

Copy-paste mentality doesn’t fly at UChicago, that’s fo sho.
So I’d say no chance. ; )

Murr, all I can say is that there are students who are dying to go to UofC CoughmeCough and then there are those who apply to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT etc etc etc who don’t care which one they go to. Pleeeease find a school that you are passionate about going to…then become obsessed to the point of stalking the message board (Not like I do that or anything ;^_^;) and focus on that one school. Don’t take a spot if you don’t care where you go. Just some advice…

I agree with Litlhurry… partially because I really really really really really want to go the UofC too and will be pouring my heart and soul into my application :P. I, too, stalk the board hahaha.

Hi-five to that my brutha/sista :D

If we both get in, we can do a happy dance xD

wow I feel so worthless. I have a 1960 SAT and 3.6 GPA and I’m wondering if I have an actual shot lol

damn u must have bad self esteem or something

Research what kind of school U.Chicago is. It has a rigorous devotion to academic scholarship, and you really have to enjoy learning for the sake of learning. They don’t believe in learning straight up applicable knowledge at the undergraduate level such as engineering or business.

Please, why do you even ask if you have a “chance?” Are you kidding me. Your stats are fine, but I don’t think you’ll get in when your passion is business. My advice is don’t apply here.

Go to NYU Stern…now that’s a fantastic business school, and I’m sure you’ll get in.

I am applying to 10 schools all of which I am incredibly excited and passionate about. I mostly just hang out over on the Yale and International boards but just wanted to mention that you guys seem like a nice bunch over here so hiiiii!

Cacciato - don’t worry! Don’t get sucked into the crazy CC mentality of anything-less-than-2400-just-ISN’T-high-enough! 1960 IS a good score. If you write great essays then you do have a shot. Just let that passion shine through on your application. Good luck!!

Well that’s good that you’ve done your research and you’re passionate about them! That’s what I really meant, because ofcourse you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak…As long as you know what you’re talking about (Unlike some…but I’ll drop the subject since we’re getting off topic :p)

If you have any questions about UChicago feel free to ask anyone here. I’ve had great convos with many different people, and I always like to give a little input if I know something from personal experience (Like the campus and the interview for example)

Well hi for coming over :p

wait…so is telling them that you show interest in going into business totally taboo? because they DO have a graduate business school? I’ll be interviewing with them soon so should I just keep quiet about possible interests in business?

saying you’re interested in going into business is not a bad thing to say. Chicago has a renowned Econ programme.

However, saying in an interview that you intend to major in business will indicate you have not done your homework and will reflect poorly on you.

If you want pre-prof and a school similar to U of C look at WASHU and Columbia

Don’t know about their business program and don’t care but just saying go bug them with your chance threads

and just so the OP and everyone else knows there are people who get in with 3.3 GPAs and 26 ACT scores

and there are those rejected with 36 ACT and 2380 SAT

you have the same chance as anyone
