do i even have a shot at the wait list?

they only look at your sophomore and junior year gpa. So I say you have a decent chance to good chance of getting in.

Good luck.

edit: just saw that you’re latino. Yes, you’re going to get in. Congratulations.

I would go to the link below, click on “Custom Tables” and enter up to 3 mean characteristics at a time to see what the admit rate is for someone with your profile:

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)

I don’t think the odds are stacked in your favor for Cal, but best of luck!

Ditto Ankur1521’s edited comment… lucky. haha.

People saying that you’ll get in (only) because you’re Latino…that’s ****ty. I’m Latina and I totally do NOT think I got in because of that…anyway, I don’t really know the situation in California regarding affirmative action. I can say that in the state where I come from, Hispanics are NOT taking the academic opportunities that are presented to them. Let’s leave it at that, but seriously, the entire academic minority thing regarding Hispanics and blacks is sad.

@AlamedaAndre: I don’t know if they look at freshman year GPAs, and I don’t know what the effect of that year’s GPA will be for you. But are there any awards (academic or otherwise) that you can add to the list? Maybe some leadership awards, sports awards, AP Scholar, National Hispanic Scholar, community sevice award? What are some of the leadership activites you’ve done with your clubs? Maybe, if you’re very passionate, writing about one of your sports or one of your leadership positions in those clubs might be a good idea.

they look at freshman year gpa

They do look at your freshmen grade, but if you improved a lot since them I think they’ll not take it too much against you.

You don’t deserve to get in, but anyone has a shot.

The only way you’ll get in is to explain why you did so poorly your freshmen year. From then, show how your improved by using your resource wisely and so on. As much as freshmen grades don’t count, it’ll still count against you when compared to other applicants.

Freshman grades do not count when calculating UC admissions GPA.

However, they may be noticed during comprehensive review.

At least in theory, UCs are not supposed to use your race or ethnicity for any admissions purpose.

Every school likes massive upward trends. You have a decent shot.
