i wanted to know what my chances are at LSA i have veryyyy low test scores im obviously not a good test taker....
female from maryland, attends highly-ranked competative public school (many people apply from my school :-/)
SAT:1790 m:570 v:570 w:690 (=1140)
GPA: uw:3.6 w:4.10
AP eng lang: 4
taking/have taken 5 APs, been in all honors since 9th grade
good ECs- captain of track, varsity indoor&outdoor track for 4 years, newspaper, very involved in greek community, NHS member, etc.
excellent recs and essays (i worked for months on my essays with my college councellor)
also my dad went there
i applied around 11/9 i think, yeah pretty late for my scores...and i looked on the scattergram and most people in my range got either deferred or rejected and im hoping legacy would help a bit but im highly doubtful! what are my chances? any comments are greately appreciated!

Chances are probably pretty low.

You have a shot because you obviously go to a tough school and take challenging courses and maintain a solid GPA, but your 1140 on the SAT hurts your chances. Can you retake the SAT or have you already taken it multiple times? Maybe looking into the ACT, if you haven't already, may help.

what high school?

i took the ACTs and got a 25...i know its low im just a bad standardized test taker. i go to churchill by the way

You do have a shot, but like I said, your standardized scores will hurt you.

i think the 25 on the ACT is better than your 1140 SAT. I'd submit that one, and you're really not that far out of the range.

No...she actually fell on the dot for both tests - a 25 is equivalent to a 1130-1160 so either one would be the same :(.

Apply early...you never know....if you are admitted, they'll probably make you do CSP..which isn't bad at all. CSP is a good program. Good luck to you.

It's a reach with the test scores. Just wondering, how could you have a 4.1W if you've taken all honors classes since 9th grade? i go to whitman and have a 3.6UW but my weighted is higher then that...and i took some classes that aren't honors that aren't required, like 2 years of engineering and a year of robotics.

CSP? is that a local thing that us out of staters dont know about?

Comprehensive Studies Program...its UM's version of remidial assistance. They automatically put people with standardized testing scores into it.

if they needed remidial assistacne how did they get in? am i missing something?

just a quick question- which one is better: a low gpa + high sat scores or a high gpa + low sat scores??? (i know having high gpa and sat scores would be great.. but that's not happening.)

For Michigan, I'd say the high GPA and low SAT scores would be more desireable.

annnnndd another quick thing. I posted this on another college's forum but i'll ask here anyway. do research/internships help in admissions? like not as just "a factor" but sorta with more emphasis than normal ec's? i've done two so far, and am currently still interning at NIH.. so i hope this kinda helps..
