Do i even have a shot...?

Hey guys i wanted to apply to rice but then i got all pessimestic (gosh, i can't even spell) & now i don't know if there's even any point to applying. i would really appreciate it if someone would give me a second opinion. these are my stats:

GPA: 3.9/4.0
Numerical Average: 97.39
Class Rank: 8/430

Scores:
SAT: 1900 (620 CR, 640 W, 640 M)<< taking again, but not sure if i will submit...
ACT: 29 (waiting for Oct scores... i think i did better, but taking in Dec anyway)

Sr Year Schedule

AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
AP Government
AP MacroEco

I have an A+ in every class except Calc (B) :(

I'm part of a career oriented program in my school for students who want to go into the Medical field

EC's
Girl Scouts of America: Earned Silver Award & a religious award (i'm working on Gold, but i won't have it done in time for apps... does that count for anything?), & i was an Asst. Patrol Leader & have been a Leader in training for 2 years
HOSA: won 4th place at area & was historian
Student Council: Project Coordinator
Model United Nations: Best Delegation Award
Member of Key Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society & Mu Alpha Theta
Was a summer intern at a hospital (kind of like clinical rotations)
Won the President's Gold Service Award (260 hours of community service in one year)
A total of around 450ish community service hours (and still counting...) for all four years
won 5th place informative speaking at district UIL
Started my own tutoring service during the summer
Work at the Kumon Math & Reading Center in Austin
Involved in various programs at my church (reading, summer camps, and weekly religious classes)

I want to sort of show that i love working with kids since a lot of my activities pertain to that (my silver award was also about helping young children improve their reading skills)

Assuming that my essays are good & my recs are pretty good as well, waht are my chances? Should i even apply (my mom keeps telling me to, but it feels like a waste of an app fee, maybe i'm just being too emo right now?)

thanks people :D

What's hurting you right now is standardized testing. Take SAT again, and you need SAT II's as soon as you can. Definitely apply, even if you don't do much better you have a shot.
I would suggest taking SAT II and ACT as a priority because you may not have time to submit otherwise. IF you have time, do the SAT I again. Then apply!

Good luck!

Dallas Mavericks fan?!

No Way!

Lol..

wait i was under the impression that if we were going to ACTs, we didn't have to take SAT IIs... that's right, right?

but should I go ahead and take SAT IIs? I'm signed up for SAT Is in december and it cost money to change. is it really worth changing?

and just a reply to someone else: i used to be a mavs fan. but now we suck. i don't watch the games anymore because if i did, i would cry my eyes out because we are so pathetic.

Mavsgirl yes your right that if you take the ACT with Writing you dont have to take the SAT II. and No dont take the SAT II's if your gonna screw up , it will probably hurt you in admissions.

and why yes the Mavs do suck after Coach whats-his-face left haha!
Just kidding but yeah im kind of mad that they are doing horrible :( including the 'Boys!

alright, okay. I mean I'm sure i can do well on USH, but seeing as how rice wants SAT IIs in "your subject area of interest" that will not work because I'm planning on majoring in Biology (at least for now...) & i don't have too much time (or energy)to cram for Bio SAT IIs or the like.

and ya... i hope Cuban regrets firing Avery now haha!
