Yeah, well, I can't say I'm a mediocre student but I am no way the best (laziness and procrastination).

I would have, I'm pretty sure, a 4.27 weighted (the only gpa my school sends out) but I already know that would be a 3.86 unweighted. I already took the SAT, I got a 2260 (I'm retaking it this March). I'm interested in Columbia for the good financial aid and its location in NYC. I'm applying to many NYC schools. I might try my hands at Barnard too. I just really want to live in NYC. I'm a good candidate for my instate schools of William and Mary and such, but its easier to get into William and Mary than Columbia. I just want to know how much of a chance I have...if I even have a chance, and if I do I'll probably borderline :(

BTW, forgot to mention I’m a Junior.

Yes, you have a chance, but without some kind of hook or “X” factor, then it will be pretty hard to get into columbia

I’m the first in my family to go to college. My dad is a Vietnamese refugee who has never even stepped into a school room. He lived in near poverty back in the streets of Vietnam. As for my mother, she only finished 7th grade in some rural school in Vietnam. Plus, my dad makes under 35000 a year. Would that be a hook? I’m Asian, but I’m far from well-off Asian.

what are your interests? and outside activities?

You should check out the Questbridge program if you already haven’t.

That would indeed be a hook.
