Do I even have chances?

Ok... my starts are pretty horrible but thats not entirely my fault. My school is fairly small(less than 800 in entire school) and it does not offer much at all. Does not have AP, IB, or anything really.. very few clubs and a lot of the time you cannot join a class because it isn't available in the right semester. I live in eastern Tennessee, white, live with my mom who makes less than 30,000 a year. I work 15-30 hours during the school week(reason for lack of e.c. activities).

GPA: 3.4 (my school has never heard of weighted GPAs btw)
ACT: 33 (going to retake it with writing in october)
SAT: going to take it in the winter after I study some
Honors Math & Science classes
DECA & FBLA

and... thats it. Yeah its horrible except for the ACT score so I ask, do I have a shot at anything more than a community college? Thanks :)

haha, yes you have more shot then you think, you are fine.

Yup the ACT is great. Make sure your essay and teacher recs are good. As for AP tests, try to self study something easy to study like English language, psychology or human geography, hearing about the income it could help with credits- if you’ve done calc then test for it. I had to self study like 4. See if you can get a fee waiver and apply to some good schools because you are right on track. Look at your class rank and if you fall into the top 10- 20% try for cornell and such schools that do great on financial aid. GPA is not everything, class rank matters more.

Include all the disadvantages you’ve had in terms of taking classes on your apps. Other than that, you’re fine. Not necessarily Ivy material, but you’re fine. A 33 would give you a fair shot at a moderately good UC school even. I would check out schools in the league of UCSB, UCI, etc (sorry, the UC system is the system I’m most familiar with). I’m not saying you’re in at those schools for sure, but your test scores are well above average and GPA below. A lot of it will be chance.

You seem like a good candidate for your state flagship. Your issue is finances, it seems like you would need either a school that meets financial need or an inexpensive one.

That eliminates the UCs and the ivies are probably not in reach with your GPA, but there are many good schools that meet 100% of need and are not as competitive as ivies.

Google: schools that meet 100% of need.

You have a shot at a lot of schools. Just make sure you apply to a couple of safeties.

I would but I don’t even know what my safeties, matches, and reaches are. I guess I can name a few and you all tell me.

Tennessee Tech
University of Tennessee
Middle Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University
Walter State
Carson Newman

I don’t really know where I stand… what colleges in TN are in my reach?

Very thankful of this site and how you all help. Ive read a lot over the past while, just never posted until now.

or any other school that would be a good match.
