do i even stand a chance at getting into UCs?

i feel like i missed out on a lot of opportunities with clubs and sports for freshmen and sophomore year-which is the year i am in now
my gpa is 3.6 unweighted with all honors and ap biology. i'm in badminton (1 year), a few clubs like speech and debate that i rarely go to, as well as about 40 service hours from my local hospital. i plan on taking about 2-3 aps next year and hopefully more particpation in clubs
so anyone want to share some ideas? =[

You have an excellent shot at gaining admission to a UC (based on the limited info provided). You probably aren't looking at the upper tier of UC's though...

Are you kidding me? Id say apart from UCLA and UCB you have a gooooood chance. Look into service stuff this summer you lazy bum (totally kidding but ecs are awesome)

uhmmmmm yeah???

Assuming all your lesser grades are freshman year, then you have a shot at all of them... thats if you get good SAT.
If you have 4.0 GPA UC GPA and 2000 SAT score or higher then you'll have fair-good shot at all of them instate or out...
if your out of state and you GPA stays the same, I would say you onlt then have a shot at UCI, UCSB, and UCD. I would Consider UCR, UCSC, and UCM easy shots then too...but yeah... UCR, UCM, and UCSC for sure if your instate.

Yeah you've got a good chance. I know a girl who got into UCLA with less than a 4.0 and she got a $10,000 scholarship.

whyw ould she not get into an ivy league...?
That seems like good grades...

Maybe mid UCs if you're good. Higher UCs if you do really better junior year.

Work on your SATs and your ECs. Go volunteer somewhere or something...

Get about 200-300 volunteer hours.

Are you from California?

Yes. A lot of badminton players get accepted into UCs.

Honestly, I feel like for California residents, with the exception of UCLA and Cal, the UCs aren't very selective at all. My friends have done roughly the same as you and they all got accepted into UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, etc.

i got into ucsd with an unweighted 3.7, 1900 sat, and a few ecs
therefore, if i can, u can

depends on how well u do junior year i guess...

wow thanks for all the encouraging replies =]
my only concerns are that since UCs only select a few students from each high school, i'm also competing with my peers, whom take a lot of the same classes as i do, share pretty much the same e.c. and gpa, etc.
is there anything i can do to stand out and look better?
oh and i do live in california
thanks in advance

I SHOULD BE THE ONE WORRYING ABOUT GETTING INTO A UC, not YOU!

Just remember to try to do something SPECIAL that will set you APART. EVERYONE i know from my school this year got absolutely OWNED by the UC's this year.
The sat's are starting to not count for as much, but obvisouly you're going to have a better chance with 2000+. This year, MANY people were expecting to get into Davis and SB but MANY got rejected.

I mean, it sounds like you are definately on the right track, just be wary.

can you give me some advice as to what sets people apart? taking harder classes or leading in some kind of event? i'm not sure what to do =/

I am currently in UCI but i have some friends who went to UCLA.

The difference was just that i had 3.6 and he had about 3.9 gpa.
I also got 1950 on SAT and he got 2150. That is about it.

I would say you should try to become "captain" of badminton or different. like becoming a captain or making a club or something. I would stick to one event/sport/volunteer work because it shows dedication to your work and they like that.

good luck :)

sam

cgjeon, thanks for the advice. i have a question though, what aps did you take for your soph and junior year?
oh and congrats at getting into UCI =]
